Tel Aviv Museum New Wing / Public Buildings Studio

The project dealt with designing a new wing for the Tel Aviv Muesum of Art, in a constricting, triangular lot.

One of the first design questions was the museum's role in the city context. By creating an open ground floor, through which the public can pass freely, whether entering into the exhibitions or not, the museum becomes an urban event, enmeshed in the city life, rather then an isolated "art box".

The musial space is defined by free-standing forms, rising from the sunken courtyard to the rooftop, surrounded by open promenading ramps. Two kinds of exhibtion spaces are created: Open and airy around the closed forms, small and intimate within them. The rising cubed volumes also create a dialog with the existing museum's design.

The inner space is projected to the outside through semi-tranparent walls, again connecting the museum to it's urban surroundings.

The project won 1st place at the national student competition for the design the TLV Museum of Art New Wing (part of an international architects competetion), as well as recieving 3rd place in the departmental student competition.
